Ladies and gents, boys and girls, welcome to FamilyFun's World of Illusion, a place where everything is possible and nothing is as it seems. Our first mind-blowing trick? We're going to turn you into a master of magic, an illusionist capable of making your family, your best friend and even your know-it-all uncle Joe scratch their heads, stare in amazement and demand to know: Hey! How'dya do that?
You don't believe us? Good. (If you did, it wouldn't be much of a trick, now, would it?) We may not have David Copperfield's flair for drama (or--thank goodness--his sense of fashion), but we do have a few other things going for us. For starters, transforming kids and parents into magicians just isn't that hard. Most are already darn good at a skill that every magician has to master: the ability to fib. "Magic is entertainment, show biz, fiction," says Teller, of the illusion team Penn and Teller. "Magic offers you the chance to say, 'I'm going to lie to you now. See if you can catch me.'"
Plus, the tricks we're going to teach you--a simple sleight of hand, a clever deception and a spectacular stage illusion--are so foolproof that just about anybody can perform them. We know magicians aren't supposed to reveal their secrets, but these illusions were just too good to keep up our sleeve.
All that's left is to get you to practice. You want your routine to seem natural, which requires rehearsing the movements and words. But that shouldn't be a problem. After all, what other pastime gives you a chance to lie, cheat and deceive your friends and family--and leave them begging for more?
