In this trick, time really is money. Just enlist the help of a discreet assistant, practice a bit, and get ready to wow the crowd. And remember, a magician never reveals her secrets.

What You Need

• 4 coins (penny, nickel, dime, and quarter)

• Mug or cup with handle

Instructions

1. Ask someone to choose 1 of the 4 coins while your back is turned.

2. Have your assistant cover the selected coin with an inverted coffee mug and remove the other 3.

3. Now turn around and announce the covered coin.

4. The Secret: Ahead of time, instruct your assistant to place the mug so that its handle indicates the coin underneath: 12 if it's a penny, 3 for a nickel, 6 for a dime, and 9 if it's a quarter. Just make sure you agree which way the "clock" is facing!
