One of my goals as a parent is to get my children interested in music, to give them a hobby that will fulfill them throughout their entire lives. Helping them become good listeners, eager musicians and confident singers has proven fairly easy even for me, a person with no formal music training. All it took to immerse my daughters Anna and Rachel in the world of music was a few simple, unintimidating activities: a Sound Safari, homemade instruments and kids' karaoke. These exercises work well with children of all ages--the only rule is to make the music fun.
Families who are interested in music may also want to sign up for music lessons. Anna and Rachel recently began taking piano lessons and, acting on a long-standing desire, I decided to join them. Now, all three of us are amazed with our success.
