Sleep tips and tricks for new parents
FACT NUMBER ONE:
Most infants have some disruption of sleep at one time or another during their early development.

In the early months of life, an infant gradually gains the ability to sleep for longer periods at night. The sleep pattern that develops during this time becomes the foundation for later sleep habits. Therefore, establishing good sleep habits from the early weeks of life is of paramount importance.

FACT NUMBER TWO:
The average newborn tends to sleep for about two to four hours, wake up for one to two hours, fall asleep again, and so on throughout the day.

FACT NUMBER THREE:
The one-week-old infant sleeps about 7 3/4 hours in the day and 8 1/4 hours at night, for a total sleep of 16 hours. At about four weeks of age, an important pattern begins to emerge, with daytime sleep decreasing and nighttime sleep increasing.
