Apple Dumplings
A sweet dessert treat for the whole family.

- 4 firm apples
- Four 9-inch pie crusts, rolled out very thin
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3 tbsp. raisins
- Butter
- Red wine
- RED WINE SAUCE
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2-3 tsp. cornstarch
- 1-1/2 cups red wine
- 1 tbsp. butter

Peel and core apples. Steam them slightly, then cool. Place an apple on each of the 4 circles of pastry. Combine brown sugar and raisins and pack this into the apples. Dot with butter and moisten slightly with a little red wine. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Moisten the edges of the pastry with a bit of red wine or water and bring them up around the apples, forming a complete enclosure. Press the edges of the pastry together to seal. Sprinkle lightly with sugar and bake about 35 minutes, or until apples are done.

Red Wine Sauce: Combine sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan. Add wine and cook until thickened and clear, stirring constantly. Add butter, remove from heat and serve with dumplings. Makes 4 servings.
