Cookie Spooks

A Halloween treat idea from FamilyFun magazine

ghost cookies Serve this troupe of ghost puppets and watch them disappear in a few quick bites.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

Pencil
Cardboard
Scissors
Homemade sugar cookie dough or ready-made cookie dough (available in the refrigerator case at your grocery store)
Butter knife
Popsicle sticks
Confectioners' sugar
Milk
Black string licorice

DIRECTIONS

1. Have your child make a pattern for the cookies by drawing a ghost shape on the cardboard and cutting it out.

2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Lay the pattern on the dough and use a butter knife to cut out ghost shapes (it takes two to make each pop).

3. Place half the cutouts 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Lay a Popsicle stick in the center of each one, top with another ghost, and then pinch together the edges of the two layers.

4. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in a preheated 350º oven. Place the cookies on a rack to cool.

5. Spread on a glaze made by mixing 1 cup confectioners' sugar with 2 tablespoons milk. Before the glaze hardens, top off your specters by pressing on eyes and a mouth fashioned from snips of black string licorice.
