Braided Breadsticks

Homemade pizza from FamilyFun

Kids will enjoy sculpting this twist on breadsticks.

Ingredients

Perfect Pizza Dough
Butter for coating
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. dried dill
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
2 tbsp. olive oil

Directions

Punch down the risen dough and knead it a few times. Butter a baking sheet and set it aside. Shape the dough into a log and cut it into 24 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then roll the ball into a rope 8 inches long. With the heel of your hand, flatten the rope so it is 1- inch wide.

Leaving 1/2 inch at the top, cut the dough into three lengthwise strips (the strips will remain attached at the top). Braid the strips, then press the ends together.

On a plate, combine the cheese, herbs and garlic salt. With a pastry brush, coat the top and sides of the breadsticks with olive oil. One at a time, roll the breadsticks in the cheese-herb mixture and gently press down to help it adhere.

Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the breadsticks on the baking sheet and let them rise for 20 minutes, then bake them for 8 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden. Cool on a wire rack. Serve warm. Makes 24.
