These cookie pretzels are popular throughout Germany at Christmastime. The foundation of this recipe is the versatile dough that can be customized to create chocolate, colored, striped, or marbleized cookies.

Ingredients

• Chocolate cookie dough

• Coarse decorating sugar

Instructions

1. Roll a piece of the dough into a rope 16 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Form into a pretzel shape on a baking sheet, pressing the ends firmly. Sprinkle with sugar before baking for 12 to 14 minutes.

Tips:

Instead of rolling out your dough on a floured surface, roll it out between waxed paper. The cookies will stay moist because extra flour is not incorporated during the rolling process.
