Ooey-Gooey Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding

 From FamilyFun Magazine

Kids love to pitch in with the preparation, tearing up the leftover bread slices and pouring the milk. The result is a moist, chocolaty confection that tastes a little like a melted candy bar -- especially when it's topped with warm caramel sauce.

Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 5 cups cubed or torn stale white bread
  • 1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
  • Caramel sauce (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions
  1. Heat the oven to 350º.

  2. In a large bowl, thoroughly mix together the eggs, milk, sugar, and cinnamon. Add the bread and stir gently until all of it is fully covered with the egg mixture. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased 8- by 8-inch casserole dish.

  3. Bake for 45 minutes or until a knife comes out clean and the pudding is lightly browned and puffed up on the edges. Makes 6 servings.
