Cookie Paintings

Edible Art from FamilyFun
Egg yolks and food coloring make paints that look shiny and vibrant when baked on a cookie canvas.

Ingredients

4 eggs
Food coloring (your choice of colors)
Cookie Puppets dough

painted cookie Directions

To make the egg yolk paint, first separate the eggs. Then pour the yolk into a cup and beat it with a fork until smooth. Add 5 to 6 drops of food coloring and beat until the color is evenly distributed. Repeat with the remaining eggs and colors.

Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness using the plastic wrap method. With a butter knife, cut out rectangular canvases (we suggest 3 1/2 by 5 inches).

TIP: Have kids pretend they're painting with watercolors and let their imaginations loose. Even mistakes will taste good.

Using the paints and a brush, kids can paint anything--a landscape, animal or abstract design. Chill these works of art until firm.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 12 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Let set on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to racks to cool. Makes 8 to 12.

KIDS' COOKING SKILLS: Use this recipe to teach your kids how to separate eggs and work with food coloring.
