Vegetable Reality

Help for parents of picky eaters

by Tracie Richardson and Monique Hooker
How vegetables are introduced to children, even at the earliest ages, can help determine whether the child will acquire a taste for them, Luce says.

Recent studies show that babies who are breast-fed for at least five months are less likely to reject vegetables when they're toddlers. This is because breast milk carries the taste of whatever the mother eats.

If the mother has a varied enough diet, baby will already be familiar with the taste of many vegetables by the time solids are introduced.
