Double-Decker Malted

 From FamilyFun Magazine

With two thick and frosty layers -- one flavored with banana, the other with chocolate or mocha -- this shake (right) really stacks up. To give it extra body, it's made with yogurt instead of milk.

Ingredients
  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 3 cups vanilla yogurt
  • 1/3 cup chocolate syrup
  • 2 teaspoons instant coffee (optional)
  • 6 tablespoons malted milk powder
  • Vanilla ice cream
X

Instructions
  1. Mash the banana onto a plate and place it in the freezer.

  2. In a blender, make the first layer: blend half of the yogurt, the chocolate syrup, the instant coffee (if using), 3 tablespoons of the malted milk powder, and 2 scoops of ice cream until smooth. Add 3 more scoops of ice cream and blend the mixture again until creamy. Evenly divide the chocolate or mocha malted among six chilled glasses and put them in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse the blender.

  3. Blend the chilled banana, the rest of the yogurt and malted milk powder, and 2 scoops of ice cream until smooth. Blend in 3 more scoops of ice cream, stopping when the mixture is smooth and creamy.

  4. Remove the glasses from the freezer and slowly pour a layer of the banana malted on top of the mocha malt. Return the glasses to the freezer for 10 minutes. Serve the malteds with straws and long-handled spoons. Makes six 10 1/2-ounce servings.
