WHAT IS FAMILYFUN MAGAZINE?

FamilyFun, the country's number one family magazine, is about all the great things families can do together. We are the family experts on travel, food, crafts, parties, holidays, games, activities, and products--all the essentials that enrich the important time parents and children share. FamilyFun magazine's Toy of the Year (T.O.Y.) Awards, announced each year in our November issue, relies on testing by parents and children to determine the best toys for families to give and to get for the holidays. Click here to find out more about T.O.Y. FamilyFun magazine, which launched in 1991, is published ten times a year by Disney Publishing Worldwide and has a circulation of 2 million readers.

ARTICLE QUESTIONS

I read in FamilyFun magazine about a link to a related article on FamilyFun.com. How can I find it?
The fastest way may be to search from any of the pages on our site. Just use the search box at the top of the page. If you read about the link in the current issue, click on the "FamilyFun Magazine" link from the home page. You will also find links from previous issues archived there.

I saw a specific idea in FamilyFun magazine and wanted to find it online. How do I do that?
Many of the ideas and activities in the magazine appear on FamilyFun.com as well. Try using the keyword search on the home page (for example, to try to find a birthday cake that looks like a puppy, type in "puppy.") If you still can't find it, it is possible it is not currently online.

FAMILYFUN BOOKS AND EVENTS

I would like to purchase a FamilyFun book (such as FamilyFun Crafts or FamilyFun Homemade Holidays). Where can I find it?
Our many books are available in bookstores everywhere (or can be ordered at your local bookstore if it is not currently available). You can also order the books online, including at amazon.com. Go to the FamilyFun bookstore page for a look at all our books and a link for ordering.

I have heard that FamilyFun has various activities at Walt Disney World. How do I find out more about them?
FamilyFun is proud to present two interactive experiences at Walt Disney World. At Epcot's Kidcot Fun Stops, families can create masks with decorations from 11 different nations. Just visit any country at World Showcase, and an ambassador will show you how to get started. At Disney's Animal Kingdom, look for the Kids' Discovery Clubs, where families can try six different fun and wild hands-on activities (kids get a chance to collect special stamps along the way).

READER PANEL

I heard that FamilyFun magazine has a reader panel that subscribers can join. How do I find out more?
The FamilyFun Reader Panel consists of volunteer families who are contacted periodically via e-mail and asked their opinions on various FamilyFun topics, from crafts and cooking to traditions and travel. When we have a question, panel members are sent an invitation to complete an online survey. In return, not only do these expert families win our eternal gratitude, but there are cash and prize incentives as well.

The Reader Panel is maintained by Digital Research, Inc., an independent market research firm. Neither Digital Research nor FamilyFun will try to sell participants any products or services, nor we will sell names or information to any other company or organization. You can read more about DRI's Privacy Pledge at www.digitalresearch.com/ffpanel.htm.

SENDING LETTERS AND PHOTOS TO THE MAGAZINE

I would like to write a letter to the editors. How can I do that?
We Love Hearing From You!
Send your photos/digital images and letters to Mailbox, FamilyFun, 47 Pleasant Street, Northampton, MA 01060 or to letters.familyfun@disney.com. Letters may be edited for length or clarity. Photographs will be returned only if accompanied by an SASE. Please include a daytime phone number for verification purposes. For tips that will help you get your photos into the magazine, see below.

Any tips for getting my photos into Mailbox or My Great Idea?
We don't expect or even want professional-looking photographs for the magazine's Mailbox and MGI departments. But if you'd like to see your kids in our pages, quality often does count given the many photos we receive every month. Here are a few tips for taking shots that will reproduce well in the magazine -- and therefore be more appealing to our editors:

  • Both your child and the craft project, recipe, or whatever should be in focus and easy to make out.
  • Make sure the lighting is good. Natural light is often best. But don't shoot in front of a window unless you have fill flash, or your child's face will be underexposed (it's okay if the window is at the photographer's back).
  • Avoid distracting backgrounds, such as an open closet or dishwasher behind your child.
That said, great spontaneity or a killer smile can easily outweigh technical perfection. And don't worry about red-eye or imprinted dates: we can fix that kind of thing.

P.S. For Mailbox, the sooner you send us your photos, the better. Our lead time is more than two months, so when you're getting the September issue, for example, we're already working on the issue your letters about it will go in, December/January. Lots of great shots miss our deadline. However, please send your photos and letters even if you think it might be too late for us to publish them: we make copies and put them in a big binder for the whole staff to enjoy. We really do love hearing from you!
