the number of fossil collections, dinosaur exhibits and archaeological digs have dramatically multiplied in recent years. The following attraction, one of the best in the country, is sure to delight your budding young paleontologist.
PETRIFIED FOREST NATIONAL PARK
HOLBROOK, ARIZONA
Although it's now dry and dusty, Petrified Forest National Park was once the lush, tropical home to some of the earliest known dinosaurs. Kids can check out the skeletal remains of Nicrosaurus, an oversize crocodile-type creature, and Gertie, a Chindesaurus discovered here. More adventurous kids can earn a badge in the Junior Ranger Program. Admission is $10 per vehicle. Call 928-524-6228 for more information, or visit the Web site.
