PIPESTEM RESORT STATE PARK
If you opt to stay at one of Pipestem's two lodges, try to reserve one of the 30 rooms in Mountain Creek Lodge. Tucked at the base of the 1,300-foot-deep Bluestone Canyon, the lodge is accessible only by aerial tram (free for lodge guests; otherwise, a small fee applies) and offers spectacular views.
The park runs a year-round recreation and nature program that includes dancing, movies and naturalist-led hikes. During the summer you can see musicals, plays and choral groups. Other activities include boating, an exercise room, game rooms, golf, horseback riding, swimming, miniature golf, a sauna and tennis. Call 304-466-1800 for all the details, or click here.
