PLACES TO STAY

Colorado Springs

South KOA
Located on the banks of Fountain Creek near the base of Pikes Peak, this campground offers family activities throughout the year, including movies, hayrides, ice cream socials, and pancake breakfasts. There's an outdoor pool, a place to check e-mail, and an ATM so you won't feel all that removed from modern civilization. 8100 Bandley Dr., Fountain; (800) 562-8609 or (719) 382-7575; KOA Kampgrounds.

Embassy Suites
This all-suite hotel, one of the chain's best locations, has an atrium lobby with a koi-stocked pond. There's a complimentary breakfast and a pool with a deck, which has a great view of Pikes Peak. 7290 E. Commerce Center Dr., Colorado Springs; (800) 362-2779; (719) 599-9100; Embassy Suites.

The Broadmoor
If your family is looking for a place where you'll be pampered, this resort is well worth the price. Frequently named one of the top hotels in the country, the Broadmoor can be a self-contained luxury vacation all by itself. The resort covers 3,500 acres, which include a private lake, tennis courts, an arcade, two outdoor pools, one indoor pool, and an on-site movie theater that only shows movies rated G, PG, or PG-13. Kids ages 3-12 can join the Bee Bunch, which offers daytime and evening activities. The program runs most days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (plus 6 to 10 p.m. during the summer and holiday periods). 1 Lake Ave., Colorado Springs; (800) 634-7711; The Broadmoor.
