With a 13 year old son, 11 year old daughter and 4 year old son it is hard to find a vacation that pleases and holds everyone's interest.
Usually we end up going to the beach. This past summer, at the suggestions of our older two, we decided to do something different. We went to Colorado and stayed in the Denver area.
On our first full day, we went to a Rockies game. Our whole family are baseball enthusiasts, so the chance to see a new ballpark was exciting to the whole family. My husband has the dream to hit all the major league ballparks in his lifetime, so he got to mark one off the list. We bought general admission tickets and the total was only $17.
On the 2nd day, we headed to downtown Denver to do some shopping. The downtown area has an outdoor pedestrian mall and you can catch a bus at every block to take you to other parts of the mall. Our older two got to go to Niketown and our youngest was thrilled with taking his first bus ride and getting on and off the bus at the different stops.
The third day took us up to Winter Park. They have lots of summer attractions that our whole family was able to do. Our favorite was racing each other down the alpine slides, (our 4 year old had to ride with either me or his father, but our older two could steer down it alone). We played miniature golf, climbed the rock wall, did trampoline bungeeing and rode the big gondolier up into the mountain and had a snack. We were only planning on staying there a couple of hours and ended up spending the whole day there
Our last day was the only day that we had to split up. The older two and I went white water rafting and my husband took our 4 year old son to the Denver Zoo. The rafting was a lot of fun for the older two and my son enjoyed having his dad all to himself for a day at the zoo. My husband had rave reviews for the zoo.
Needless to say, it was wonderful to get so much time for all of us to be together, because that is quite a rarity.
