Our Casey Jones in training, Sebastian, age 4, likes nothing better than the iron wheels, big engines, and rumbling cars of a moving train. My husband, Ed, and I are rail fans too, making a day in the birthplace of North America's first short line railroad one of our favorite family trips. The line used to haul freight and passengers across the region but shut down after World War II.
In 1957, a group of local businessmen bought and remodeled the station, and train tourists like us have flocked to Strasburg ever since, for real steam locomotive rides, caboose restaurants, and Sebastian's favorite -- enormous museums where,
if we let him, he could play with toy trains all day. We've pulled into the picturesque town many times, so on a recent visit we knew the perfect stops to make the most of our hours there. All aboard!
