What's not to love about a sport where you can sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game during the seventh inning stretch, or snag a bag of peanuts tossed by a vendor in the stands? Small wonder that baseball is considered America's national pastimeit's one of the most relaxing and enjoyable games to watch. Add a hundred years of history and the thrill of seeing a hanging curve walloped into the upper deck and you've got surefire family entertainment. Want to be part of movie history too? Head to Iowa and make your dreams come true...
IOWA'S FIELD OF DREAMS
In the movie FIELD OF DREAMS, an Iowa farmer plows his fields to build a diamond for the ghosts of the 1919 Chicago White Sox. Created in 1988 on a 93-year-old farm in Dyersville, Iowa, the site has become a pilgrimage spot for ball fans drawn by the magic--or perhaps thoughts of Kevin Costner.
Bring your bats, balls and gloves to this small town in the northeastern corner of the state and pretend you're playing a game with 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson and the others, who in real life were banned from baseball for deliberately losing the World Series. The field is open April through November. Admission is free. Call 888-875-8404.
