My family always enjoys visiting this cowboy- and western-themed ranch set on a peninsula in Sequoyah State Park. Parents get a night off when the recreation staff takes kids on a Lil' Wranglers Night Out, complete with a hay ride and hot dogs. Other park programs include ranger-led walks, swimming lessons, country-western dancing and arts and crafts.
Campsites overlook the crystal-clear waters of Fort Gibson Lake. Some of the activities available include archery, biking, boating, fishing, golf, horseback riding, shuffleboard, tennis and swimming. For more information, call 800-654-8240 or click here.
ROMAN NOSE RESORT PARK
Set on the edge of a canyon in forested central Oklahoma, Roman Nose is another of my family's favorite vacation spots. A recreation staff is on hand to entertain kids with swimming games, arts and crafts, hikes, hay rides, campfires and naturalist programs. While housing options include a lodge, cabins and campgrounds, we love staying in the modernized tepees--echoing the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians who once lived here. Other activities include archery, basketball, biking, canoeing, fishing, golf, horseback riding, mini golf, paddleboating, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Call 800-654-8240 for more details, or click here.
