There's probably no better place to catch the true spirit of Thanksgiving than Plimoth Plantation, the outdoor museum that meticulously re-creates 17th-century settlements of the first English colonists and New England's native Wampanoag people. So one day last November, my husband, Sam, 6-year-old son, Elliott, and I set out from our Massachusetts home to enjoy a "1627 Harvest Dinner" at the site, about 40 miles south of Boston. By day's end, we all knew we'd never forget how we traveled back in time to feast on holiday turkey!
WHERE WE WENT:
Plimoth Plantation, 137 Warren Avenue, Plymouth, Massachusetts; 508-746-1622. Open 7 days a week from March 24 to November 25.

The 1627 Harvest Dinner costs $56 per adult, $41 per child for a filling meal of turkey, seafood dishes, corn pudding, and cheesecake, and includes admission to all the exhibits. Regular museum admission is $12 to $21, free for kids under age 5.
