HEAD TO WINTERGREEN
Wintergreen, an upscale resort sprawled on 11,000 acres, gives you Blue Ridge Mountain magic, from endless views to varied activities. Besides enjoying boating, golf, tennis, swimming and horseback riding, families learn about birds, fossils, wildflowers and stream life on the frequent guided hikes through the resort's own nature preserve. Children romp through butterfly hunts, salamander walks and water rodeos as part of Kids in Action, a camp divided into two age groups, two to five and six to 12. With Kids Night Out, kids six to 12 enjoy movies until 10 P.M., while parents are free to relax. The Wintergreen Nature Foundation offers WILD! day camps for children during the summer. The three-hour programs incorporate crafts, stories, and games to convey the important connection between nature and people. The wide variety of trails at Wintergreen offers many different outdoor encounters with nature. (Time: 9:00 am -- 12:00 pm; Cost: $25)
With a Family Package, a two-night stay in a two-bedroom condo from June 14 through Labor Day starts at $305 per night.
