CARSON CITY RENDEZVOUS
CARSON CITY, NV:At the Carson City Rendezvous in Carson City, Nevada, in early June, you'll see plenty of pistol-packing cowboys in old-time gun battles. Or you can visit the Indian village, where you will find baskets, pottery, rugs and other Native American artwork on display. At the mountain-man encampment, liars' contests and tomahawk throwing shed light on this colorful 19th-century counterculture. And families can learn how camels were used to haul silver ore in the Old West, if only for a few years: While camels outperformed mules and donkeys, too many cowboys got seasick riding these "ships of the desert." Kids can go for a camel ride and judge for themselves; if they'd prefer to cuddle, they can mosey on over to the petting zoo. For more information, call 775-687-7410 or 800-NEVADA-1.
