Have you ever wondered how big an airplane engine is, or how they get the wings to stay on? Find out by taking your family on a factory tour. These behind-the-scenes explorations give children (and adults) a new appreciation for how everyday items we take for granted are manufactured.

An outing to Boeing makes for a great day trip or stopover during a long car ride.

BOEING
EVERETT, WASHINGTON

From a third-floor walkway, visitors get a bird's-eye view of the Boeing 747, 767 and 777 aircraft production lines in this enormous 98-acre, 11-story building (the world's largest by volume). Kids who love building model airplanes will be wowed by the workers below riveting together wings and passenger bays. Overhead, you'll see cranes carrying plane parts to their destinations, and all around you'll find electronic components and miles of wiring. Pick up a free postcard as a souvenir of your visit. Children/students under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children 15 and under. Children must be at least 50 inches tall. Tickets can be purchased in advance and are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 8:15 A.M. daily but are often gone by noon. Call 206-544-1264 for more information.
