If you are going to be hitting the road with Rover, consider the following tips:
Feed your pet four to six hours before departure (or wait until you arrive at your destination) and open windows partway for fresh air to minimize your pet's motion sickness.
Give her water during a long trip.
Exercise your pet immediately before you leave so she'll relax while you travel.
Stop frequently for romps, but keep your dog, and your cat, on a leash for safety.
Don't leave your pet alone in the car. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures can rise rapidly, causing dehydration and even death.
Don't let your pet stick her head out the car window - she could be hit by flying debris.
Keep your cat in a travel carrier so she doesn't interfere with your driving.
Veterinarians recommend that your dog also travel in a carrier to protect her in an accident.
