A NATURAL URBAN GETAWAY
Surrounded by the lush natural beauty of mountains and water, the fast-growing metropolis of Seattle blends urban excitement with friendly informality. In keeping with the city's youthful, athletic spirit, many families rent bikes or walk while exploring Seattle's eclectic neighborhoods. The first stop is typically Pike Place Market, one of the oldest farmers' markets in the country, where you can shop, people-watch, and view the harbor's boat traffic. From there, you can explore the waterfront district (home of the Seattle Aquarium), Pioneer Square and the International District.WHY FAMILIES LOVE IT
It's an easy city to navigate. It's fun to rent bikes, then ride to Seattle Center (call 206-684-7200), the 74-acre park surrounding the landmark Space Needle (call 206-905-2100). The park hosts free concerts, and there are amusement rides, street performers, restaurants and shops. When we're in the mood for exotic food, we visit the International District to scope out the tiny ethnic restaurants and sample some specialties we've never tried.FRIENDLY HOTEL
