Family learning vacations from FamilyFun

Picture a vacation where instead of returning with just a tan, your family comes home with a newfound knowledge of the music of Appalachia, the glacial forces that carved valleys or the critters inhabiting wetlands. Instead of souvenirs, you've picked up skills in silk-screening or wildlife photography. Such are the benefits of so-called learning vacations--programs that let families share the excitement of discovery. The formats vary: Parents and children may take classes together or receive hands-on instruction in separate groups. Accommodations range from tents to dorm rooms to off-site condominium rentals. But overall, these vacations are affordable, low-key--and popular. So if any of the following piques your family's interest, call as soon as possible.
