ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA

The melodies, movement and myths of Appalachia, Scotland and Ireland come alive for families at the Swannanoa Gathering. The music camp offers eight week-long sessions, two of which are open to kids ages five to 12 as well as adults. During Celtic Week kick up your heels Riverdance style with lively step dancing, sing folk songs and play the tin whistle. Or, practice clogging, square dancing and fiddle tunes during Old-time Music & Dance Week. Tuition is $300 per person, and a less intensive children's program is $75. Room and board in dorms is $210 per adult per week. Kids stay free with parents; children's meals are $34 weekly.
