Our readers are a vocal group, so it's no surprise that caroling is one of the things that propels them house-to-house. Kim Wigginton and her neighbors in Louisville, Kentucky, start their seasonal songfest with a cookie exchange. They meet at a predetermined house, each family arriving with four dozen homemade cookies. Some are set out for immediate consumption, some divvied up and stowed away to be taken home, and the rest tucked into baskets to share with neighbors as the group carols its way through the streets. When the gang has filled up on cookies and cider, they set out into the December night, making frequent stops to share their treats and songs with the folks who've chosen to stay at home. They light their way with candles cleverly tucked into plastic coffee can lids to protect hands and catch drips.
